A timer tells you when to work. Your iPhone’s Focus settings help decide what can interrupt that work. They solve different problems, and a little preparation makes them useful together.

Set your interruption rules once

In iPhone Settings, open Focus and choose a Focus to configure, or create a custom one. Select the people and apps whose notifications you want to allow. Keep any contacts you need to remain reachable to. Review the options on your device, because the exact screens and available features vary by iOS version.

Open Control Center to turn on that Focus before studying. If you rely on a timer alert, check that your notification choices allow it. Do a short test before committing to a long session; an unexpected silent alert is easier to fix in advance.

Define the study block outside your phone

Put the material you need within reach and choose one concrete result: explain a diagram, solve a small set of problems or write a summary from memory. Keep the instructions on paper or on the device where you are actually working.

Start a focus interval in Tempo Canvas, then put the iPhone aside. The app’s timer and art reveal do not automatically block other apps or configure iOS Focus. If you want fewer interruptions, set those rules in iOS separately.

Have a plan for the urge to check

When you remember a message to send or something to look up, write a brief note. Decide whether it is necessary for the current task. If it is not, leave it for the break or the end of your study block.

This is a practical experiment, not a promise that you will never get distracted. At the end, notice which interruptions came from notifications and which came from a task that was unclear. Those need different adjustments: change a notification setting for the first, or shrink the next task for the second.

Close the loop after the timer

Record where you stopped so restarting is easy. Take a short break that has an obvious ending, such as getting a drink or looking at one artwork. When you return, begin with the next action you wrote down.

Tempo Canvas is available for iPhone. You can try three completed focus sessions free before a subscription is needed to start more. Its gallery gives you a visible record of finished sessions alongside your focus progress.
